Musanze caves

The fullness of amazement features that attract tourists to this northern province of Rwanda is so overwhelming making it the centre of Rwanda’s tourism. Ranging from the mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, birding spots, magnificent mountainous relief as well as the water bodies. These province is just an endowed side of Rwanda and the new one just outside the Ruhengeri town the capital of Musanze are Musanze caves.

Musanze caves are located in the outskirts of the Northern Province district of Musanze or Ruhengeri that is an attraction of its own with a lot of prehistoric information and also the beauty of the cave itself is so appealing to do a lot of activities. Though scary, ardent explorers won’t buckle up to excuse of any scares insinuated by its look. It’s a 2 km stretch of caves covered in lush greenery and the bats occupy the inside part of it  but it’s beautiful vegetation around them gives the best view for good pictures and are also good to explore.

The water here is so tranquil, still and makes the “Remarkable Rwanda” so fantastic country side to spend time with the wildlife in this area. There are also many museums which show case the honors of Rwanda’s past and the great future, many breath-taking views and that are once in a lifetime offered opportunities.

Musanze caves are also long depending on the time, we can see what to cover. There is no light inside these caves and you have to use the head lights on the helmet all the time. This is also good for you, but the sharp light is known to disturb the bats and make a lot of noise it’s also good when you switch off all the lights inside and then stand quietly, these bats also calm down and then go silent. You can also feel them flying close to you, the winds panicking, the strange bats stink and many more.

The last bit of Musanze caves is also the most beautiful. Musanze Caves in Genocide times of 1994 was used by the residents that flee the killers to hide and save themselves. Many of these lived here for months and made the caves their homes. However, it must have been tough living inside there, with no lights, little food and many bats. There is a new walk way in place now and back then, it was only rocks and the rough terrain. As per as my guide, many of the people who hid here survived the killings.

Musanze caves is one of Rwanda’s best hidden treasures because the atmosphere of these caves is so cool and so natural, this moment is beautiful and the reflection also deserving and the cultural folklore at Musanze caves and geographic activities that brought the grottos into the existence. Full of many bats that fly through the colored sharfs of light used by tourists. These bats are sub divided into two types, the fruit eaters and the insects.

While planning to visit the Musanze caves there are few things one must have before entering the caves for safety reasons; the following are essential; The head cap, helmet, the light face cover, gloves, knee caps boots and all these play a very serious health role during and post your activity.
