Rwanda Reopens Tourism with Discounted Gorilla Permits
Rwanda discounted gorilla permits following the easing of tourism restrictions in the country. Rwanda reopened tourism a few weeks ago after closing parks for about 3 months following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced that tourism activities as well as resumption of international travel for charter flights will reopen. This means tourists are allowed to undertake any of the safari activities in Rwanda as long as they observe the set safety measures.
The Rwanda Development Board with the private sector Rwanda tour operators are offering very attractive tourism packages for Rwandans and foreign residents. Rwanda gorilla trekking tour permits have been discounted to US$ 200 for Rwandans and East African citizens residing in Rwanda and US$ 500 for foreign residents. International tourists can visit Rwanda, however, tourists can only come into the country with charter flights or private aircrafts. The Rwanda gorilla trekking permits for international tourists however, hasn’t been discounted and is still at US$ 1500. This promotional discount will be inclusive of the Covid-19 test cost ends 31st December this year.
Other discounts available for gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park include;
- 10% discount on bulk purchases like 30 permits for cooperates or organizations
- 15% discount for family visits (individuals above 15 years)
- 15% discount for each permit purchased that includes 1 night in accommodation and tourism activity for tour operators and hotels.
For other activities done other done Rwanda gorilla tours, there are also other discounts like;
- 30% discount on groups of 10 where applicable for nationals, foreign residents and East African Community residents
- 10% discount for individual travelers for nationals, foreign residents and East African Community residents
- 30% discount on bulk purchases like 30 permits for cooperates or organizations
- 15% discount for family visits for couples and children
Tourists can visit all parks including Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking in Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park for Chimpanzee trekking and Akagera National Park for wildlife viewing. All these will be done under minimum safety guidelines.
Specific Guidelines for International Visitors
Visitors travelling by charter flights (individual and groups) are welcome to the country and should follow these guidelines;
All visitors are expected to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to arrival.
Tourists will take a second Covid-19 test prior to visiting any tourist attraction. The following options are available:
Tourists can take the first Covid-19 RT-PCR (Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction) test in the country of origin at an ISO certified laboratory, 72 hours before departure and the second test will be taken upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. They are required to submit the results of the first test to the following address (email@example.com) before departure and also upon arrival at Kigali International Airport. They will be expected to wait 8 hours for results of the second test at designated hotels in Rwanda. This is applicable to direct flights only.
Tourists who are not able to test in their country of origin have the option to be tested twice in Rwanda: The first test will be taken upon arrival at Kigali International Airport while the second test will be taken 48 hours after arrival. Tourists will only be expected to visit tourist sites after two consecutive negative tests and will wait for their results at designated hotels.
An optional test may be provided on request at departure.
The cost of the COVID-19 test will be included in tour packages.
While in the country, visitors and flight crew members are expected to abide by guidelines of the Health Ministry and specific guidelines for tourists’ attractions including National Parks.
Specific Guidelines for domestic Tourists booking with Rwanda discounted gorilla permits
Domestic tourists visiting Nyungwe and Volcanoes National Parks are required to test negative 48 hours prior to visiting these attractions. The results should be presented at the Parks’ reception.
A private test center has been set up at Petit Stade, Amahoro National Stadium. Testing will be done by appointment.
The cost of Covid-19 test for the domestic market (Rwandans and Foreign Residents) will be included in the parks’ permit prices.
Rwandans and Foreign Residents are encouraged to take advantage of discounted and diversified tourism packages including visiting various tourist attractions and staying in hotels at various tourism destinations in the country.
The above guidelines apply to the different tourism activities, operators and attractions including national parks, boat riding, and kayaking, canoeing, hiking, birding, museums, culture and heritage sites.
